Can you describe your role at Cepac?

I’ve been in this role for about three eventful years during which time the business has achieved several landmark successes. Cepac has a strong customer focus and has developed highly impactful Point-of-Sale and a truly devoted following.

My immediate responsibility is for the internal and external sales teams but with strong links to repro, design and estimating. We all work collaboratively and are tremendously enthusiastic about the possibilities for POS (Point-of-Sale) within a rapidly changing market. My focus is within Cepac’s Doncaster manufacturing site.

What does Cepac create at Doncaster?

Doncaster focuses very much on POS and Display work which is dreamt up by our incredible design team. It’s a very creative side to the business and really means we can embrace the magic of corrugated cardboard.

Remember the magic of a corrugated box as a kid? You could build a castle or a car, a suit of armour or a birdwatching box—imagination was the limit!

Working with corrugate for Display work is all about catching people’s attention. Our best work is the kind of magic that my 11-year-old self would have been proud of. The skill in creating these displays is to capture that wow factor whilst remaining sensitive to the brand and identity of our customers.

Cepac uses the very latest technology and invests in its people.

We constantly raise the bar for both design and production. Digital print provides another very different dimension with respect to print quality, fast response, and customer service. Cepac first developed digital printing in Doncaster.

Can you describe your career route and progression?

I have worked within the industry for over 20 years from the age of 16 when I came straight from school. My Dad worked in print and encouraged me throughout my print apprenticeship.

This provided a solid grounding in print and origination which led within two years to a job within design. Following experience in prototyping and sample making, I became a CAD designer. By working across multiple departments, I felt that I gained practical knowledge and experience which was second to none.

Capitalising upon my background, I was able to progress through technical design into account management where I sold what I used to design and print. I felt that I was able to build successfully upon my working knowledge and understanding of materials, processes, and print.

What changes have you encountered within the industry?

The major change has been our customers’ need for speed to market. Print quality has also changed phenomenally in recent years.

Digital printing technology has ensured that we are more reactive to customers. Not only has it ensured high-quality print but also a revolution in the way that we work.

Cepac are all about corrugated. We find we’re increasingly involved in plastic replacement, and sometimes we’ll experiment with audio or scent in our products, which is pretty exciting!

What is your typical day?

My typical day tends to be a mixed bag.

I like to ensure that everything is moving along as it should be. This involves checking progress on large briefs, design developments and price quotations although nothing beats face-to-face contact with customers.

I like building relationships with customers but also our support teams who we rely upon both in the office and out on the road.

What does Cepac do particularly well?

There is no doubt that Cepac really performs when it comes to providing customer service and speed to market. It is all about responding quickly to a brief and, with the whole team working collaboratively, getting our projects quickly into the market.

The Cepac group covers multiple sites in the UK. We’re big enough to offer full-service packaging to our clients and we still have the focus to really innovate and specialise. Everyone really cares about each other and the work.

What have been your standout events?

As a team we derive most satisfaction whenever we develop long-term relationships with customers who have the confidence and enthusiasm to allow us to be more creative with their promotions. As a result, we have pushed the boundaries in terms of design thinking and innovative production.

This belief in innovation and design is regularly proven. Recent award wins include:

  • UK Packaging Awards 2025 - Gold
  • POPAI UK & Ireland 2025 - Three wins
  • Shop Global 2025 - Gold
