Welder Fabricator Apprentice - Rotherham

DEPARTMENT: Engineering
IMMEDIATE SUPERIOR/MANAGER: Maintenance

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To support the fabrication and welding team while completing an apprenticeship programme, gaining the practical skills, technical knowledge and safe working practices needed to become a competent welder fabricator. The apprentice will learn how to manufacture, assemble and repair metal components and structures to specification, quality standards and production deadlines.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and assist with fabrication and welding activities under the guidance of experienced colleagues.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, job sheets and work instructions.
  • Prepare materials, measure, mark out, cut, drill, grind and assemble components.
  • Develop skills in welding processes such as MIG, TIG and MMA, depending on business requirements.
  • Carry out basic quality checks to ensure finished work meets specification.
  • Use tools, machinery and equipment safely and correctly, carrying out routine checks before use.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area, including correct storage of materials and equipment.
  • Follow all health, safety, quality and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Attend college, training sessions and assessments as required by the apprenticeship programme.
  • Work positively as part of a team and communicate any issues, faults or delays to the supervisor.


Measure of Effectiveness


1. Full compliance to all H&S procedures.
2. Complete college courses, training and assessments to the required standards
3. Demonstrate practical skills on site to Maintenance Managers

 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

  • A minimum of 4 or 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English, typically at Grade 4/C or above.
  • Science, Design Technology or a related technical subject is advantageous.
  • A genuine interest in welding, fabrication or manufacturing is essential.
  • Ability to meet the entry requirements of the relevant apprenticeship standard and training provider.
  • Any relevant school, college
