Proposed Closure of Darlington Site
Cepac Ltd has announced plans to close its Darlington site, with the loss of up to 63 jobs. The site manufactures small corrugated trays (which it markets under the brand Flutepac), but due to heavy financial losses, it is proposed that all production will cease at Darlington.
On 9th September, the company began a 30 day period of redundancy consultation with employee representatives before any final decisions are made.
Steve Moss, Group Managing Director, commented,
"It is regrettable that we have had to make this announcement. Despite significant investment in new equipment, the accelerated growth planned for the Flutepac portfolio of fibre-based corrugated trays has not materialised due to much slower market development than we had anticipated. Should these plans be implemented, every effort will be made by the company to support those affected to find alternative work at other Cepac sites or elsewhere in the local area.”
